What it is.
Smile lines, also called nasolabial folds, run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Marionette lines run from the corners of the mouth down toward the chin. Both deepen as the cheeks lose volume and the skin above them drifts down. Filler placed directly into the fold softens it. Filler placed in the cheek can lift the fold from above.
Which approach is right depends on your face, which is why Crystal assesses the whole mid-face first. Filling the fold alone when the cause is the cheek tends to give a flat result. Often the best answer is a little of both.

What to expect.

Consultation
Crystal checks whether the fold is best treated directly, from the cheek, or both, and explains what is realistic for the depth of your lines.

Treatment
Filler is placed along the fold with a fine needle or cannula. Numbing is used. About 30 minutes.

Recovery
Mild swelling and possible bruising for a few days. Most people carry on with normal activities.

Results
Softer folds right away, settling within two weeks. Results typically last 9 to 12 months.

Will I still be able to smile naturally?
Yes. Filler softens the fold at rest. It does not stop movement.
Should I fill the fold or the cheek?
It depends on what is causing the fold. Crystal assesses this at your consultation and will recommend the approach that gives the more natural result.
How long does it last?
Typically 9 to 12 months, since the area moves with every expression.
