What it is.

Lip filler is a hyaluronic acid gel placed in and around the lips to add shape, hydration and a modest amount of volume. It can define the border, balance an uneven upper and lower lip, soften vertical lip lines, or simply give the lips a fuller, more rested look.

The most common worry is ending up overdone. Crystal treats conservatively and prefers to build over two visits rather than overfill in one. Many first-time patients start with half a syringe to a single syringe.

Every lip treatment is performed by Crystal Simm, RPN, after a conversation about the shape you want and what suits your face.

What to expect.

  1. 01

    Consultation

Crystal looks at your lip shape, proportions and how they move when you talk and smile, then agrees a plan with you before anything is placed.

  2. 02

    Treatment

Numbing cream is applied first. Filler is placed with a fine needle or cannula. The appointment takes about 30 to 45 minutes.

  3. 03

    Recovery

Swelling is normal for two to three days and can make lips look larger than the final result. Bruising is possible. Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours.

  4. 04

    Results

The final shape settles over one to two weeks. Lip filler typically lasts 6 to 12 months, and a follow-up is included to review the result.

Common questions.

Will my lips look fake?

Not if the filler is placed conservatively and matched to your face, which is Crystal's approach. Overdone lips usually come from too much product in one session. She builds gradually.

Does lip filler hurt?

Numbing cream is applied before treatment, and most fillers contain a local anaesthetic. Most patients describe pressure and brief pinches rather than pain.

How long does lip filler last?

Usually 6 to 12 months. Lips move a lot, so filler breaks down faster there than in other areas.

What is the difference between a lip flip and lip filler?

A lip flip uses a small amount of neurotoxin to relax the upper lip so it rolls slightly outward. It adds no volume. Filler adds shape and volume. Some patients combine the two.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme if needed. Crystal will explain this at your consultation.
