What it is.
PRP microneedling combines two steps in one visit. Microneedling uses a handheld device with fine, sterile needles to make controlled micro-channels in the skin. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is prepared from a small sample of your own blood, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, then applied to the skin while those channels are open.
You may have seen it called a vampire facial or a PRP facial. They all describe the same treatment: microneedling with your own platelets. At Chrysalis Beauté, microneedling is always paired with PRP.
Every session is performed personally by Crystal Simm, a Registered Practical Nurse, after a review of your skin and health history. Because the PRP comes from your own blood, there is no synthetic product in the treatment itself.
What to expect.

Consultation
Crystal looks at your skin, reviews your health history and explains what PRP microneedling involves, how many sessions she would suggest, and whether it suits you. Some skin conditions and medications mean it is not the right choice, and she will tell you.

Treatment
A small blood sample is drawn and spun to concentrate the platelets. Numbing cream goes on first. Crystal then works the microneedling device across the treatment area and applies the PRP to the skin. Plan for about an hour, including the blood draw and numbing time.

Recovery
Skin is usually red and feels warm, a little like a sunburn, for a day or two, and may feel dry or flake lightly as it settles. Crystal gives written aftercare covering cleansing, makeup, sunscreen and workouts for the first few days.

Follow-up
PRP microneedling is usually done as a short series rather than a single visit, with sessions spaced several weeks apart. Crystal confirms the number and spacing at consultation and checks how your skin responded before each session.

Numbing cream goes on before treatment, so most people describe pressure and a scratching feeling. The blood draw feels like a routine blood test.
How long is the downtime?
Expect redness and warmth for a day or two, and some dryness as the skin settles. Most people are back to normal activities the next day. Crystal's aftercare sheet covers makeup, sunscreen and workouts.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually a short series. Crystal recommends the number of sessions and the spacing at consultation, based on your skin and what you are hoping to address.
Who should not have PRP microneedling?
It is not suitable during pregnancy, with active acne or a skin infection in the area, with certain blood or clotting conditions, or on some medications. Crystal reviews all of this at consultation, which is why it comes first.
