Your First Med Spa Visit: What to Expect (and What to Ask)

Your First Med Spa Visit: What to Expect (and What to Ask)

If you’ve never set foot in a med spa, the unknown is half the barrier. Here’s exactly what a first visit looks like at a well-run practice — and the questions that separate good clinics from sales floors.

What actually happens at a first visit

At Chrysalis Beauté, a first visit is a free consultation — a conversation, not a commitment:

  1. You talk, she listens. What’s bothering you, what you’re hoping for, what you’re nervous about.
  2. Health history review. A regulated health professional checks that treatments are appropriate for you — medications, allergies, conditions. If a clinic skips this step, leave.
  3. Honest assessment. Crystal looks at how your face moves and rests, then tells you what would genuinely help — which is sometimes less than you expected, and sometimes “nothing yet.”
  4. A clear plan and exact pricing. Units, syringes, sessions — numbers, not vagueness.
  5. You decide. Some people treat the same day; many book a later date or go home and think. Both are normal.

Questions worth asking (anywhere you go)

  • “Who performs the treatment, and what’s their designation?” You want a named, regulated professional — here, it’s Crystal Simm, a Registered Practical Nurse, for every treatment.
  • “What would you not recommend for me?” Honest injectors have an answer.
  • “What happens if I don’t like it?” For HA fillers there’s a dissolving option (how that works); for Botox, it wears off in months (timeline).
  • “What are the risks and the aftercare?” Real treatments have real answers (Botox aftercare, lip filler aftercare).

Red flags to walk away from

  • Prices that seem impossibly low (corners get cut somewhere invisible)
  • Pressure to book multiple treatments on the spot
  • Nobody asks about your medical history
  • You can’t find out who is actually injecting
