What Is a Lip Flip? Cost, Results & How Long It Lasts
The lip flip has quietly become one of the most popular “subtle enhancement” treatments — and a lot of people don’t realize it’s done with Botox, not filler. Here’s everything you’d want to know before trying it.
What a lip flip is
A lip flip uses a tiny amount of neurotoxin (Botox or Dysport) placed along the upper lip line. It relaxes the muscle just enough that the upper lip gently “flips” outward, showing a little more of the pink of your lip. The result is a subtly fuller-looking upper lip — without adding any volume.
It’s quick (a few minutes), uses very little product, and is one of the most natural-looking lip options available.
Lip flip vs lip filler — what’s the difference?
This is the question everyone asks:
- Lip flip (Botox): relaxes the lip to reveal more upper lip. Subtle, no added volume, shorter-lasting, lower cost.
- Lip filler: adds actual volume and shape with hyaluronic acid. More dramatic, lasts longer. (See how long lip fillers last.)
Some people start with a lip flip for a subtle change, and move to filler later if they want more. They can even be combined. If you’re unsure which suits you, Botox vs fillers breaks it down further.
How long does a lip flip last?
Because it uses a small amount of product in a mobile area, a lip flip typically lasts 6 to 10 weeks — shorter than a full Botox treatment or lip filler. Many people maintain it with repeat treatments.
What it costs
A lip flip uses only a few units of neurotoxin, which makes it one of the more affordable enhancements. Exact pricing depends on the units used and is confirmed at your consultation. (More on how Botox is priced.)
What to expect
- Consultation — Crystal checks that a lip flip suits your lip shape and goals.
- Treatment — a few small injections along the upper lip; just a few minutes.
- Results — develop over a few days to two weeks; subtle and natural.
A note: because it slightly relaxes the lip, some people notice minor temporary changes to things like sipping through a straw — Crystal will go over what to expect.
