Lip Filler Aftercare: How to Heal Well

Lips swell more than most areas, so good aftercare makes a real difference to how comfortable your healing is — and how your final result looks. Here’s the simple version.

The first 24–48 hours: do’s

  • Use a cold compress gently (don’t press hard) to ease swelling.
  • Stay hydrated and keep your head slightly elevated when sleeping the first night.
  • Eat soft foods and be gentle around the mouth.
  • Stick to gentle skincare around the lips.

The first 24–48 hours: don’ts

  • Don’t press, massage, or pucker the lips (no straws, no kissing, limit lipstick).
  • Skip strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours.
  • Avoid heat — saunas, hot yoga, very hot showers.
  • Avoid alcohol for the first day (it worsens swelling and bruising).
  • No flights for a couple of days if you can help it.

What’s normal

Expect noticeable swelling for the first 24–72 hours — lips often look bigger than the final result at first. Some bruising, tenderness, and small lumps that smooth out are also normal early on. (See how long lip fillers last for the bigger picture.)

The healing timeline

  • Days 1–3: peak swelling
  • Days 4–7: swelling settles significantly
  • 2 weeks: the final result — this is when to judge your lips, not before
